Buttermilk Biscuits

Buttermilk Biscuits

Ingredients:

2 cups all purpose flour
1/4 tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/3 cup vegetable shortening
2/3 cup buttermilk

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 450°. Sift together flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda and turn into medium bowl. Cut in shortening until it resembles coarse cornmeal. Add buttermilk and stir just until dough holds together. A little more buttermilk may be needed.

Turn onto floured board and knead lightly until dough is smooth. Roll out to one-half inch thickness. Cut into two-inch rounds. Place on ungreased baking sheet. Bake approximately 12 minutes or until golden.
